Heart to Heart

I wanted to take a few moments to thank the many people who responded to my series of posts on Baby Ray's Birth, both in comments on the blog and Facebook, as well as personal emails. My heart is full with the love that was shown to me, as well as the openness from those who shared their similar stories of heartache and insecurity. Thank you for the loving support you have shown to me!

This blog continues to morph from what it was started as: a meal planning and recipe blog. I think the changes are good, and I love being able to delve a bit deeper into what it means to be a mother. I want to be able to continue to share the recipes my family enjoys, and occasionally meal plans, but also blog about other issues, both from my personal life and more broader topics that affect us all.

I was considering a name change for my blog, but am not sure how best to go about this without completely confusing those who have been loyally following my blog here and on Facebook. So I think for the time being, I will stick to The Menu Mama.

In the upcoming weeks, I plan to blog on how to get started running, playful parenting tips to make mothering young children more joyful, and preparing for cold and flu season with essential oils, as well as a few recipes of course (probably fall-themed).

What are some topics you would like to see me blog about?
Do you have any thoughts on changing the blog name vs keeping it the same?

  1. that's tough to change the name, I agree. Maybe try to come up with a name that incoporates or plays on Menu Mama ?? LIke Menu Mama and children's stories. (Obviously thats silly - but you know what I mean) then put a small blurb in the description saying something about how you changed paths? I have thought about changing mine too .... but then decided against it. I would love a more photography name but whatever. I do think if you are crafty about it, you can do it and not lose anyone :)

    1. Thanks, Skye! I love your blog and think your photography speaks for itself, even if it isn't in the name - it's gorgeous!

  2. There is a lot more to your mama "menu" than cooking. You listed many of them above. So I think the name works. Don't forget about your grandma's wonderful pumpkin pie recipe though.

    1. Ooh, clever, I like that! I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie, but Jared is! Maybe I'll blog it after Mom makes it on Thanksgiving. ;)

  3. I forgot all about your class tonight!!! And I so wanted to listen in. It was about the medicine cabinet of essential oils, right? I was really interested in that. Did you by chance record it?

    1. Hi Jill! That was actually a local class, and it is the same one you have listened to in the past, so don't worry! But I am going to do a new class on staying healthy during cold and flu season that I will be sure to send you the info to!

  4. Heather,
I think keep the name because very few people would accidentally come across your blog in a search and feel misled. Rather, your current readers will be completely familiar with your name and your expanded posts and refer to your blog with a link that won't need any explanation.

I love your blog and am so glad for your new posts. I really like the mix of recipes and reflections. It's so real this way.

    Love, Aunt Judy
